DIONNE QUINTUPLETS’ BIRTH DESIGNATED AS NATIONALLY HISTORICAL EVENT BY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

I am very excited to read about this is this morning’s news feed. The Dionne Quintuplets are the only recorded MONOZYGOTIC (Identical) quintuplets in the world. Unfortunately the story takes a down turn from that point as three levels of government stepped in and took the babies from their parents and other siblings, placed them in an observation building and displayed them to the public for the first nine years of their lives. “Quintland,” as the compound was called, became a huge money maker for the area as more than five million tourists viewed them through a one-way mirror.

The 5 young ladies were returned to their parents aged 9 and virtually were strangers to not only their parents, but their 8 other siblings as well due to their long, imposed separation from their family. The reunion did not go well at all and in the
late 1980s, the Canadian government compensated the surviving Quints for their pain and suffering as a result of the rupture caused by their forced removal from their family home. This was not one of Canada’s finer moments.

Both myself (www.jumelle.ca) and Multiple Births Canada (www.multiplebirthscanada.org) have been working for several decades to ensure that multiples in Canada and beyond are not exploited, forceably or needlessly removed from their families or separated from each other for adoption. We must learn from the mistakes of the past and ensure that our errors in judgement are not carried forward.

My heart feels good this morning as this tragedy of circumstances of birth is somewhat rectified, acknowledged and the Dionne Family fully recognized for the very special and unique family they are.

MOM LOVES JUMELLE THE BEST BABY TRACKING APP

Posted on June 15, 2017. Filed under: raising multiples | Tags: , , , , , , , |

Hi Lynda,

Found your wonderful app today, I needed something to track my 5 month old twins feeding, sleeping and changing. It is also helpful because I can track my toddler’s poopy diapers.

It is the only app I found to track multiple children. Your app is very user friendly and will help tremendously. It would be helpful if the user could also input the amount consumed in a bottle feeding in ml and ounces. Being at home with three children under two I exclusively pump and would love to be able to have a daily summary of the amount consumed in a day.

Thank you for your time

Stephanie

Jumelle Twin and Baby Tracking App from iTunes

Lynda,

First of all, I love this app. I’m expecting identical twin boys in January, and this is the first and only app I’ve found that can toggle between kids easily. I’ve been told I’ll need to track feeding/diapers/sleep, but if I have to remember to keep a notebook with me, I know I won’t, but my phone is of course glued to my hip.  …… even though they’re not here yet, I can already tell this app is going to make tracking things times two so much easier!

Thanks!  Amanda

Taking a Multiple-Birth Prenatal Class

Posted on April 2, 2015. Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

Don’t wait.  As soon as you know you are pregnant and with how many, sign up for and take a Multiple-Birth Prenatal Class in your community. Many Moms expecting twins or triplets will be put on bedrest, or deliver early (i.e. before 38 weeks) and you may miss the class altogether.  Taking the class early ensures you have pertinent information when you need it.  Signs & Symptoms of premature labour, nutrition demands to feed you and your growing babies, how to prepare your singleton child for the births, what to look for in your nursery, getting them on the same schedule, and SO much more!  You will not have time to read after the babies’ arrival so connecting with other parents, getting your reading materials and resources is essential and will alleviate many of your anxieties ahead of time.  It doesn’t matter if you are 15 or 18 weeks, take the class early so that you have all the necessary information under your belts and not miss out on having a great experience.

I offer a prenatal class on DVD with a preview on my Web Site if you prefer to take a class at home or find yourselves on early bedrest.  Take a look and check it out as well as Jumelle:  The Best Twin and Baby Tracking App.   Keep easy track of which baby did what, when and for how long.  Also hints and tips for the first 6 weeks.
